The Picton Castle Trust
The castle and gardens at Picton have been in the care of the Picton Castle Trust since 1987 (Charity Registration No. 519693). The work of the Trust is to manage and restore this unique part of Welsh heritage, ensuring public access and supporting education.
The charitable work of Picton Castle Trust is to:
- Conserve and restore the castle, its original collection of art, books and antiques and the 50 acres of gardens.
- Provide public access to the castle and gardens.
- To support and promote education associated with Picton and its history.

Restoration of the castle
Restoration of the castle will be a multi-million pound project. This work will enable public access to areas currently unsafe and ensure that this wonderful house, with its rich and important history, is protected for future generations.
Many of the upper rooms of the castle are currently derelict or semi-derelict, the roof needs considerable work, as do the walls and windows. This is a large-scale project that is likely to take time to complete.
In the meantime, we are actively raising funds for a smaller restoration project that we hope to complete in the near future: the restoration of the Muniments Room.
This delightful little room is just off the library and still has its 18th century wood panelling. In medieval times it would have been used for storing important legal documents, hence its name.
We welcome donations on site or online, which will be put towards our restoration work.

Volunteering
Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Picton Castle Gardens. Their time, energy, and enthusiasm help keep the charity thriving and accessible for everyone to enjoy. Our volunteers strengthen the connections between this historic site and the communities we serve, creating a welcoming space where people can learn, explore and feel inspired.
Whether supporting behind the scenes or engaging with visitors, volunteers contribute in countless ways that make a lasting impact. By giving just a few hours, you can become part of a vibrant and supportive community, playing a vital role in the future of one of Pembrokeshire’s most cherished places.
We are always looking to expand our volunteering team and have vacancies in the following areas:
- Gardens
- Castle stewards & tour guides
- Retail / Book / Gift Shop
- Events
If you would like for information about becoming a volunteer, please get in touch with us.
