Admission includes access to the castle and gardens. Guided tours of the castle are an additional cost.

Your admission is valid for 7 days from the date on your receipt. You will need to show the original receipt for free re-entry.

Guided Tours of the Castle at 2pm (subject to availability)

We try to offer guided tours everyday. However, occasionally this is not possible due to volunteer shortages. If a guided tours is essential to your visit please phone before arriving to ensure there is one that day.

Free guided tours on Mondays at 1.30 pm and 2.30 pm (excluding school holidays).

We accept the following membership cards

• RHS (1st November – 31st March only)
• Gardeners World two-for-one card (1st November- 31st March only)
• Historic Houses (provides free access to the castle, but a guided tour is an additional cost)
• Art Fund (provides free access to the castle, but a guided tour is an additional cost)

Dogs on Leads are Welcome

Dogs on leads are welcome in the gardens. Dogs are allowed in the lower half of the restaurant. Only assistance dogs are allowed inside the castle. We kindly request that all dog owners clear up after their dogs.

Accessibility

• Approximately 65% of the gardens are accessible to wheelchairs. These paths are hard pressed gravel. All of the most popular areas of the garden such as the Walled Garden, Jungle garden, Courtyard, the Blue Bell woods and area around the castle is wheelchair accessible. The outer areas of the gardens are less suitable, as these areas are mostly still on 19th century path systems with steps.
• There are four all terrain wheelchairs on site for visitors use.
• The castle is accessible to wheelchairs and electric wheelchairs. Please be aware that the wheel chair access to the castle does have a steep slope up to the front door.
• Mobility scooters are not allowed in the castle (due to the configuration of the building) without making a prior arrangement. Please contact us before your visit to arrange.
• There is a wheelchair in the castle for visitors to borrow (we do not have a mobility scooter).
• The second hand book shop, galleries and restaurant are fully accessible.
• There are two disabled toilets on site, one near the entrance and one near the Walled Garden.
• Disabled parking is close to the entrance from the car park.
• Please be aware that as we are a historic garden and castle there are slopes and steps in the garden .
• If you have any questions about accessibility please do not hesitate to call us.

Registered Carers are not charged admission when accompanying the person they care for but we do ask for careers ID. Currently we accept a wide range of proof of eligibility, including proof of PIP payments, letters from your GP. We are phasing this out and from the 1st April 2025 we will need to see a careers registration card, such as those available through your local Council or the Access scheme or the NHS. We do not accept Blue Badges.
