Over 1500 people attend Picton Castle’s Open Weekend

A large crowd in Picton Castle during the Open Weekend.

Last weekend’s Open Weekend, held as part of Cadw’s Open Doors programme, was a wonderful success with more than 1,500 people joining us across the two days to explore, enjoy and experience everything we have to offer.

From wandering through the historic castle to strolling across our 50 acres of gardens and woodlands, visitors of all ages had the chance to discover the rich history, beautiful landscapes and peaceful corners that make Picton such a special place.

Saturday brought a huge number of people, taking their time to enjoy the walled gardens, woodland trails and vibrant borders in bloom. The castle itself proved a highlight, with guests fascinated by its centuries of history, beautifully furnished rooms and unique collections cared for by the Picton Castle Trust. There was a real sense of excitement as families, couples and friends explored together, creating memories in one of Pembrokeshire’s most iconic settings.

Sunday, by contrast, brought some very poor weather, but that didn’t put people off! Many arrived prepared with umbrellas and wellies, determined to make the most of their visit. The rain added a fresh sparkle to the gardens, and it was inspiring to see so many visitors smiling and enjoying their day despite the conditions. The resilience and enthusiasm of everyone who came out in the rain really captured the spirit of the weekend, reminding us how much joy this place brings, whatever the weather.

What stood out most was the warm, community feel. Volunteers, staff and visitors all came together to create a welcoming atmosphere. Families found plenty to explore, history lovers immersed themselves in the castle’s story, and nature enthusiasts enjoyed the tranquillity of the grounds. That blend of history, gardens and a family-friendly setting is what makes Picton Castle Gardens so unique.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited during the Open Weekend. Your support and enthusiasm made the event truly special, and it was a joy to see so many people enjoying both the gardens and the castle.

Keep an eye on our website and social channels for details of future events as we look forward to welcoming you back soon, hopefully under sunnier skies, but just as ready to provide a memorable day out in any weather.
